The Edwinstowe in Bloom team received a Silver Award in this year’s East Midlands in Bloom competition.
Some quotes from the judges’ report:
‘The tour by car and on foot around the town of Robin Hood and Maid Marion’s marriage held many delights including the Thoresby Miners’ Memorial Garden, Cenotaph Garden, High Street planters and hanging baskets, wildflower verges and the Sherwood Forest Craft Centre. The judges finished the tour at the cricket pavilion where they enjoyed refreshing tea and cakes and met some of the town’s Bloom volunteers’. “This visit is not the end of Edwinstowe in Bloom it is just the beginning” – and what a great start on their Bloom journey!’
Further in the report, the judges refer to the ‘many delights including the Thoresby Miners’ Memorial Garden, Cenotaph Garden, High Street planters and hanging baskets, wildflower verges and the Sherwood Forest Craft Centre’. ‘The Parish Church of St Mary’s is in itself architecturally beautiful and the formal burial grounds were well maintained. ‘The RSPB Centre is a wonderful facility.’
Now it’s time to think about next year. They are planning some bulb-planting sessions to give Edwinstowe a wonderful display of daffodils in the Spring. Check out the Edwinstowe in Bloom Facebook page and look out for posters.
