The first ever Nottinghamshire Day is on Sunday 25 August.

Nottinghamshire Day is an opportunity to celebrate the identity, heritage, culture, and local traditions of our county. It is a way to champion our local communities, to better understand and celebrate the histories and traditions of the places we live, work and enjoy in our leisure time.

Nottinghamshire Day takes place on the 25 August as this date marks the anniversary of the start of the English Civil War, an event triggered by Charles I raising the royal standard at Nottingham Castle in 1642.

This Nottinghamshire Day we are also celebrating the lives of individuals who brought people together in Nottinghamshire:

There’ll also be an array of family-friendly events including trying your hand at axe throwing, crossbow shooting and catapulting or enjoying a two-part combat show starring Robin Hood, Marian and their band of outlaws.

Festival-goers will get a chance to try out one of the world’s first interactive holographic movies, starring Robin Hood, using multi-media headsets.

Nottinghamshire is famous around the world as the home of Robin Hood, but did you know about our link to America through the Pilgrims and Wampanoag tribe at Thanksgiving, or Nottinghamshire’s key role in the English Civil War?
