TODAY IN HISTORY AND IN THE NEWS FROM THE VILLAGE KITCHEN…

Today in History and in the news from The Village Kitchen.

Today is National #Apple Dumpling Day, so get out your Betty Crocker Cook Book and make some Apple Dumpling Cake.

It is also National Cupcake Week so get baking your favourite cupcake. The National Cupcake Week was created by British Baker Magazine, the week celebrates cupcakes of every shape and decoration and hopes to get you and I not just eating cupcakes but baking them too!

According to the National Awareness Days website, In 2014 Daniel Addy, Chef Dan’s Cakes was crowned the Professional Overall Winner for his Chocolate and Ameretto Cupcake.  Laura Morris was given the accolade of Home Baker Overall Winner for her Chocolate Banana Fudge Cupcake. There are loads of ideas to get you in the kitchen at the National Cupcake Week website.

Meanwhile in the news today the BBC wrote that ‘on average about a fifth of food binned across the industry is spoiled, damaged or past its best. Almost half gets the chop as it’s prepped. And a third is our fault – plate waste sent back when someone cannot manage it. Salad, spuds and rice are the most over-served offenders.’ This is something that would never happen at The Village Kitchen.
